Biography : Chris Raison graduated in Civil and Structural Engineering from Sheffield University in 1973 and was awarded an M.Sc. in Foundation Engineering in 1977 from the University of Birmingham. He became a Chartered Engineer in 1981.
After graduating he worked with Soil Mechanics Ltd. From 1979 up to 1987 he held a number of posts in Geotechnical Consultancy working for Ove Arup and Partners and Peter Fraenkel and Partners. He later joined Keller Ground Engineering as Chief Engineer. In 1999 he launched his own consultancy, Chris Raison Associates and went on to set up Raison Foster Associates with Steve Foster in 2002.
He is a specialist in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, particularly piled retaining walls, piled foundations, soil nailing, ground anchorages, slope stability, earthworks and ground improvement. He also has experience as an expert witness.
Notable projects are: British Library; Chao Phya River Crossing (Thailand); She Tin Po Trunk Road (Hong Kong); M40 (Wendlebury to Souldern); Morecambe Bay Gas Terminal; Wimbledon Town Centre; West Coast Main Line; Thelwall Viaduct . (See CV for more details).
