Biography : Chris Raison graduated in Civil and Structural Engineering from Sheffield University in 1973 and was awarded an M.Sc. in Foundation Engineering in 1977 from the University of Birmingham. He became a Chartered Engineer in 1981.

After graduating he worked with Soil Mechanics Ltd. From 1979 up to 1987 he held a number of posts in Geotechnical Consultancy working for Ove Arup and Partners and Peter Fraenkel and Partners. He later joined Keller Ground Engineering as Chief Engineer. In 1999 he launched his own consultancy, Chris Raison Associates and went on to set up Raison Foster Associates with Steve Foster in 2002.

He is a specialist in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, particularly piled retaining walls, piled foundations, soil nailing, ground anchorages, slope stability, earthworks and ground improvement. He also has experience as an expert witness.

Notable projects are: British Library; Chao Phya River Crossing (Thailand); She Tin Po Trunk Road (Hong Kong); M40 (Wendlebury to Souldern); Morecambe Bay Gas Terminal; Wimbledon Town Centre; West Coast Main Line; Thelwall Viaduct . (See CV for more details).

Biography: Steve Foster graduated with a B.A first class honours degree in Engineering from Cambridge University in 1976 and became a Chartered Engineer in 1987.

Following an initial spell as a Designer for Redpath Dorman Long he embarked on his geotechnical career with GKN Keller Foundations in 1977. With Keller, he had a varied career in a number of roles including Soil Engineer, Piling Contracts Manager, Commercial Manager and Engineering Manager. In 2000 he joined W S Atkins as Senior Geotechnical Engineer and Deputy Head of the Atkins Transportation Geotechnics Team and in 2002 he set up Raison Foster Associates with Chris Raison.

He has wide ranging geotechnical knowledge, with particular expertise in piled foundations, piled retaining walls, soil nailing, geotechnical issues in transport infrastructure, particularly bridge foundations and remedial works to unstable slopes.

Notable projects are: West Coast Route Modernisation OLE project; Norwich Chapelfield; Jersey Genesis III; M6 Toll; Railtrack Midlands Zone Structures; Coryton Refinery; Millennium Dome; Channel Tunnel Rail Link; Rugby Cement Works; Connahs Quay Power Station. (See CV for more details).

Biography: Carol Raison studied mathematics at Sheffield University followed by a career in sales for a specialist cable company selling individually designed cables to the aerospace and computer industries. After a career break for children she worked for a high street bank in their Internet Banking department. She was Finance Director of Chris Raison Associates and in 2002 became Company Secretary and Finance Director for Raison Foster Associates.
